Dine Alone Records is set to release hardcore legend Walter Schreifels’ debut solo album on May 4, 2010. An Open Letter To The Scene sees Schreifels exploring his quieter side, with a stripped-down mostly acoustic sound. Seemingly a departure from his definitive past, Walter’s solo debut is, in fact, a graceful extension of the music he has been writing for years. “To say I’m excited about working with Walter is an understatement,†says Joel Carriere, owner of Dine Alone Records. “The label is named after one of his songs, after all.â€
The familiarity of his road-worn voice coupled with the honest, poetic lyrics we have come to know and love ring with pop-like sensibility. Tracks like an upbeat acoustic cover of the Agnostic Front’s anthem “Society Sucker†tip a hat to his musical roots, while his wit shines through with “Ballad of Lil’ Kim’, a tongue-in-cheek ode to the US female rapper.
A self-professed "singer, songwriter and all around good guy", Schreifels’ body of work spans genres and remains relevant to this day. One of the most predominant artists to immerge from the ‘90s New York Hardcore scene, Schreifels has been a mainstay of several seminal bands, including Youth of Today, Quicksand, CIV, Gorilla Biscuits, Rivals Schools, and Walking Concert. The album, An Open Letter To The Scene, features 10 tracks including a new version of CIV’s “Don't Gotta Prove It†– a song Walter himself wrote – and title track “Open Letter…â€, a poignant ballad about the height of the hardcore scene.
