Henry Rollins Q & A

"it was good to have snuck into that world and gotten of it in one piece without getting yelled at.

interview conducted b Adam Connett

Firstly I'd like to know how is the tour treating you‭?

Henry Rollins:‭ ‬The tour starts tomorrow night.

Where are you most looking forward to going‭?

HR:‭ ‬I don't look forward to any one place more than another really,‭ ‬I am happy to be touring pretty much anywhere.‭ ‬I really like being in the world.

How does it differ for you getting ready for a night of spoken word compared to a night with the band‭?

HR:‭ ‬Talking shows are much more difficult than a band show.‭ ‬I do a lot of pacing pre-show with the talking dates,‭ ‬getting the ideas cooking.‭ ‬Band stuff is more stretching and elevating the heart rate.

Where have you found inspiration for the latest tour‭?

HR:‭ ‬Inspiration for this tour will come from all the places I have been recently.‭

What do you like to do to keep yourself busy when touring‭?

HR:‭ ‬I do a lot of reading and writing.‭ ‬I go to the gym almost every day on tour.‭ ‬I work on ideas for the show.‭ ‬I always have press to do‭

‬Are there any releases last year that really caught your eye‭? (‬Music/film/books‭ ‬.etc‭)

HR:‭ ‬I liked the Horrors album Primary Colours a lot.‭ ‬New Dinosaur Jr.‭ ‬album is great.‭ ‬I didn't see many films,‭ ‬nothing stands out.‭ ‬All the books I read were at least a few years old.‭ ‬History mainly.‭

What prospects does‭ ‬2010‭ ‬hold for you‭?‬

HR:‭ ‬I'll be on tour most of the year and hopefully traveling the rest of the time.‭ ‬I have two books I am working on for‭ ‬2011‭ ‬release.‭

What are a few of your favorite records‭?

H.R:‭ ‬First Damned album,‭ ‬The Crack by The Ruts,‭ ‬Another Music In A Different Kitchen by the Buzzcocks,‭ ‬Fun House by the Stooges,‭ ‬Hex Enduction Hour by The Fall,‭ ‬White Light/White Heat by the Velvt Underground.‭

‬What are a few of your favorite books‭?

HR:‭ ‬Of Time and The River by Thomas Wolfe,‭ ‬Black Spring by Henry Miller,‭ ‬Tender Is The Night by Fitzgerald.‭

What are a few of your favorite films‭?

HR:‭ ‬Blazing Saddles,‭ ‬Dr.‭ ‬Strangelove,‭ ‬Animal House.‭ ‬They are not the most serious films but always good to see again.‭ ‬There are many more serious films by people like Herzog,‭ ‬Fassbinder,‭ ‬Kurosawa and people that like that I really like but I can't watch that kind of thing all the time.‭ ‬I don't watch much film,‭ ‬hard to sit still.‭

What was it like to work on films such as‭ '‬Heat‭' ‬and‭ '‬Lost Highway‭' ‬alongside greats like Pacino,‭ ‬De Niro and Lynch‭?

HR:‭ ‬Well,‭ ‬it was an honor and very satisfying because I really had no place in either of them and so it was good to have snuck into that world and gotten of it in one piece without getting yelled at.
