Interview with FRANK "3 GUN" NOVINEC (Hatebreed/Integrity/Ringworm/Terror)

This man is responsible for influencing generations of hardcore/metal music. His riffs have been known to shred faces off of unsuspecting humans.I was able to catch up with Frank "3 Gun" Novinec for an all exclusive interview. This man has alot to say:

1)What made you pick up a guitar and start playing? To get pussy?

KISS, plain and simple, when I was a little kid growin up in the 70s and I saw that shit and it changed my life, I wasn't really thinking about pussy at the time, but pussy is great, it came in abundance later.

2) How did Ringworm get together?Any great stories about the Human > Furnace?

James aka Human Furnace(Ringworm Vocalist) and I have been best friends since we were little kids, we grew up together and used to skateboard and shit, we had a band in high school called Force Of Habit, which turned into Ringworm less than a yr later, were talkin 89-90 here, he's still doin the band til this day, they're better than ever. I watched him eat his dogs shit once, it was epic, we still idolize GG Allin to this day.

3)How did you get the nickname "3 Gun"?

When I was a little toddler I got into my dads gun collection, he had 3, I shot one off and the bullet went out the window and almost killed some guy.

4)You`ve played in Ringworm,Integrity,Terror and now Hatebreed. That's a > legendary resume that spans many years. Is there another band that you > wish you could have played with?Who?Why?

Growin up in Cleveland, my local heros are the Dead Boys and Devo, it would be cool to have been in one of those bands but at the same time, that would make me older than I already am, I'm very lucky and thankful to be in the position I am now, but that's what you get when you create genres I guess.

5)You recently played onstage with Blue Oyster Cult.Explain how this > came about and what the experience was like.

Well B O C is one of my favorite bands of alltime, and depending on what day u ask me , I may tell you they are my favorite. After following them around the country the last 10 yrs (and literally stalking them) Eric Bloom and I have become good friends. His son, Ben, it turns out, is a big fan of hardcore and metal and actually plays in local bands around NYC, with some help from Jamey (who met Eric in the airport while back), Eric found out I was in Hatebreed, it really helped my cause. The last time they were in town, Eric invited me to get up onstage and do "This Aint The Summer Of Love, that was one of the greatest moments of my life, its not everyday that you get to get up onstage and jam with your heroes.

6)What inspires you to write riffs?

Friendship more than anything, and what I mean by that is, we've made so many friends out there on the road and whatnot that I couldn't see never touring and seeing everyone in every city, state, or even country, that's the beauty of this community, its a great way to stay young and network and more than anything be surrounded by great people.

7)You've been known to party.Who is your favorite person to rage > with?Who is so ignorant that you have to get away from them?Your > favorite drink?

I like to rage, I like to blackout, anything goes. If were gonna break shit, cool, fight each other, cool as well. I like to hear good music when we are partying too. When on tour, sometimes we let ppl from other bands ride overnite on the bus and party, sometimes dudes feel the need to play their own ipod and really kill the vibe with some shitty shit , I don't wanna mention any names (Doc from God Forbid), but yeah.......I love Budweiser, Vodka, Jager, Tequilla, Gin and unfortunatley you make me drink whiskey sometimes, but that's ok as well. Brent from Mastodon is real ignorant, I wish El Duce from the Mentors was still alive, he was a great rager.

8)What does your live rig consist of?Any favorite guitar? If so,why?

Depending on the venue, I play thru 3 Marshall fullstacks. TSL 100 Heads, and vintage 1960 staright cabs, and 2 Gibson Les Pauls with EMG pickups. I have a 74 Gibson SG that doesn't come on the road ever, I'd like to have the Paul Stanley Ibanez Iceman or the Ace Frehley Les Paul someday.

9)Who is your favorite guitar player, live or dead?Your favorite bass > player?

I love Buck Dharma (B O C), and "Fast" Eddie Clark(Motorhead, Fastway). Those are 2 real underrated players.
Hendrix was the best player in my opinion, but Page is a better songwriter and an idol as well.
Chris Beattie is my favorite bass player, hands down.
(Beattie)-that was trick question.Good answer.

10)Are there any newer bands out now,metal/hardcore,that you've been > listening to or are into to?

No, music blows nowadays. I like Alan Jackson, Turbonegro, and Fu Manchu a lot tho.

11)What are some of Frank 3Gun`s hobbies?

Well I live in Fla now so...... goin to Disney World a lot, fishing, watching the Lakers, the beach, bein a prick, jerking off, watching old skateboard videos, tryin to stay young too.

12)What was the transition from Terror to Hatebreed like for you?

I think it was inevitable I was gonna wind up in Hatebreed, we were just too good of friends, Sean really made it happen. Terror was great to me and even tho Scott and I are the same age, I always felt like the old guy there, that's not why I left tho. There were some things that went on that I wasn't a huge fan of, but nothing major. I loved being in Terror because I got to be in a band that toured nonstop, as where Ringworm and Integrity never really did, Terror makes quality music as well. Terror is still an honest hardcore band, the shit that ppl and kids are calling "hardcore" these days is ridiculous. Hatebreed is just home now, it feels right, I don't want to go anywhere but here. I always say the only difference with me and Hatebreed now is, when they go up onstage to play, i get to go with them.

13)I know you're a horror movie fan. What's your favorite horror > film? Will you go see the remake of Friday the 13th that's coming out?

Bloodsucking Freaks(everyone needs to see that), the original Night of the Living Dead, Motel Hell, Tourist Trap. I may go see Friday The !3th, they should remake Saturday The 14th, that movie ruled!!!

BEATTIE: Last statement.Anything else you'd like to tell your fans?

3 GUN:I think everyone should listen to Raw Power "Screams from The Gutter" > and really be on the lookout for all the great stuff Hatebreed has goin > on now and in the future .Everyone should go get the Stigma record too, > there's a little something on there for everyone.
